NFL tidbits

We interrupt our regular programming for these bullets:
  • Benson not as good as Jones. Although they share similar stats this season (3,2 ypa for Benson and 3,5 ypa for Jones) Benson just doesn't look like a lead back and was essentially benched vs Dallas for fumbling the ball.
  • TO unstoppable again. 16 receptions for 329 yards, 20.6 average (best in football) and 3 TDs in 3 games.
  • Green Bay Packers are winning again and they’re doing it without a ground attack. Kudos to Favre, GB defense, the special teams and the coaches. Good job guys.
  • Buffalo Bills are falling apart. Poorly coached with too many injuries on defense and now JP Lossman goes down (and when that’s a bad thing for your ballclub you know you’ve got problems). This is a lost season for the Bills.
  • Mike Tomlin sure looks cool manning the sidelines with dark sunglasses and chewing gum. Lots of style points there. In other news, Steelers are playing smashmouth football again with an improved aerial attack. Unfortunately they won’t really be tested until week 14 at New England (sure they face Cincy twice and also Baltimore and Seattle at home and go to Denver all before New England but one can make a case against all these teams being the NFL’s elite).
  • Alex Smith is a bust. Just watch him in his third year as a staring QB. Or better yet - don't!
  • What a game by Donovan McNabb! Oh man! He should do more HBO interviews.
"That was one of the things we were going to rally behind,'' Westbrook said. ”Donovan took some shots this week, and we rallied behind him. We told him that we had his back, and any shots that he was taking we are going to take together as a team.” Just quit it guys! You just beat the Detroit Lions. It’s not like you beat a real team or anything.
  • Marty Schottenheimer sure looks good now don’t he? I know LDT (I’m siding with the Sports guy on this one – the only LT I know is Lawrence Taylor) is still the same player he was a year ago and the Chargers are still the most talented team in the NFL. But there’s one thing different – The Head Coach.
  • How brilliant is the Patriots OL? Brady has been sacked just three times and he’s completed almost 80 % of his passes cuz he’s got so much time to throw the ball. Have I mentioned they have the best receiver in football? This team is as sharp as a razorblade. Randy Moss runs like a gazelle. Wikipedia says: “Gazelles are known as swift animals; they are able to reach high speeds for long periods of time. Gazelles are mostly found in the grasslands and savannas of Africa.” Fits the description right?
  • Matt Schaub looks really good at QB. Never mind the two INT on Sunday. He was playing without his 2 best receivers and his two best backs, and they continued to fight back. Houston has looked good so far.
  • Tampa Bay looks well prepared with an improving defense, steady QB play and a decent rushing attack but they still seem like a team that can’t compete on the road. We’ll see in the next couple of weeks.
